Palangka Raya Kahayan Bridge

The small town of Palangkaraya in Central Kalimantan has a lot to do and see in Palangkaraya, and it is definitely one of the friendliest cities in all of Indonesia. The city is a cultural melting pot, including the majority of indigenous Dayaks.

Palangkaraya is also the main base for seeing orangutans in Indonesia which can be found on the pre-release island. Orangutans which are not too far from the city itself and you will almost certainly see some of these primates on one of the two islands where they are preparing to return into the wild. Also, not far from the gate of Sebangau National Park which is bigger than Bali Island. This is a beautiful ecological reserve and, you can explore by boat and sail to the black water lake.

The highlight of visiting Palangkaraya is the opportunity to meet and learn from its native Dayak people, where you will be greeted like family with their warm hospitality. An amazing Kalimantan adventure awaits you, we invite you to visit Palangkaraya for 3 days 2 nights.

You will be picked up at Tjilik Riwut airport and headed to the hotel for check-in. Next, enjoy lunch at a restaurant that serves traditional Central Kalimantan cuisine. Next, you will visit the Balanga Museum to learn more about Dayak Culture and Ethnography. Then visit the Ransel Buku program in Petuk Katimpun village which is a program that invites local children to fall in love in books, the environment, culture, etc (we recommend donating some educational books or story books, stationery, etc. to this program). Return to Palangkaraya for a traditional souvenir shop and dinner center.

DAY two

In the morning after breakfast, we will visit the Orangutan Pre-Release area to see the Orangutan conservation initiative by a small motor boat. You will then visit the local project “BOSF (Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation)” and get information about the impacts of deforestation on Orangutans and BOSF’s own activities. Then, you will have lunch in the Tangkiling area and return to Palangkaraya. Then visit the traditional Dayak dance at Sanggar Darung Tingang to see Dayak music and dance performances, as well as an explanation of culture and traditions.

You will go to Sebangau National Park for trekking in the peat swamp forest by motor boat. You will be treated to a beautiful view of the black river, unique vegetation, meet wildlife (if you are lucky). You will be provided with a lunch box to be enjoyed on the trip. We recommend swimming in this fresh black river as well as kayaking (optional). In the afternoon, you return to Palangkaraya and have dinner.
