Tanjung Puting National Park is one of the leading national parks on the island of Borneo. This national park is well-known as the location of the first orangutan rehabilitation center in Indonesia which was spearheaded by one of the three women who revolutionized primatology studies, Dr. Birute Galdikas. In Tanjung Puting, there are three historic locations for rehabilitation of orangutan, namely Tanjung Harapan, Pondok Tanggui, and Camp Leakey, all of which you can visit. This national park has several different ecosystems, home to several endemic and protected endangered species such as Orangutan (Pongo Satyrus), Proboscis Monkey (Nasalis Larvatus), Maroon Leaf Monkey (Presbytis rubicunda rubida), Bear (Helarctos malayanus erysipelas), Deer (Tragulus javanicus) close), clouded leopards (Neofelis nebulosa), and cats (Prionailurus bengalensis borneoensis). We invite you to visit this natural tourism site for 3 days 2 nights by using a traditional wooden boat with comfortable facilities to see the beautiful natural scenery of Borneo and get to know more about the results of a project that had been carried out by Dr. Birute Galdikas since 1971.

Itinerary

Day One

When you arrive at Pangkalan Bun airport, you will meet our tour guide and head to Kumai port which is about 25 minutes from the airport. Upon arrival at Kumai, you will board a traditional boat made of wood and sail slowly towards Tanjung Puting National Park to explore the Sekonyer river. While sailing, you will be able to enjoy the sight of wildlifes such as proboscis monkeys (long nose monkeys), long-tailed monkeys, birds, etc. along the river banks. Around 2pm, you will stop at Pondok Tanjung Harapan (first camp) to see orangutans. At dusk, dinner will be served on the boat and you will sleep on the deck of the boat.

Day Two

After breakfast, your trip will continue to Pondok Tanggui (second Camp) to watch orangutan feeding at 9 am. Upon arrival at Pondok Tanggui, you will walk to the feeding area. After feeding the orangutans, you can do a short trekking in the forest. Then, the journey continues to Camp Leakey (third Camp) for about 1.5 – 2 hours by boat. After lunch on the boat, you will visit the information center of Camp Leakey to learn more about the history of the rehabilitation center and project before seeing orangutan feeding at 14.00. After you visit Camp Leakey, you will slowly sail downstream through the Nipa Palm Area where you can enjoy a view of the night sky filled with fireflies when the weather is permitting. At dusk, dinner will be served on the boat and you will sleep on the deck of the boat.

day three

After breakfast, take a boat to Kumai and you will then be taken by car to Pangkalan Bun Airport for your next destination.

Note: If you have more time we can do a City Tour or stay longer in Tanjung Puting National Park (depending on your flight schedule)
