Yun Pratiwi, the founder and CEO of Central Borneo Guide, recently embarked on an enriching journey to New Zealand as a participant in the Young Business Leaders Initiatives for Tourism program. This initiative, organized by the Asia New Zealand Foundation and the New Zealand Embassy, took place from May 2nd to 9th, 2024, and provided Yun with a unique opportunity to immerse herself in Maori culture and tourism practices.

During her time in New Zealand, Yun explored iconic locations such as Hobbiton, Rotorua, Wai Ariki, Te Puia, and Ta Pa Tu. She engaged in meaningful discussions with Tania Tapsell, the Mayor of Rotorua, and representatives from Maori NZ Tourism, gaining valuable insights into sustainable tourism practices and cultural preservation. Yun also attended TRENZ, a major travel fair in New Zealand, where she actively promoted the natural beauty, rich Dayak heritage, and iconic orangutans of Central Kalimantan.

Throughout her journey, Yun observed striking similarities between the Maori and Dayak cultures, particularly in their deep-rooted connection to nature and ancestral traditions. Inspired by these parallels, she expressed a strong desire for future collaborations between the two communities in the realm of tourism. Yun envisions a mutually beneficial exchange of knowledge and experiences that could foster sustainable tourism development in both Central Kalimantan and New Zealand.

The Young Business Leaders Initiatives for Tourism program has proven to be a transformative experience for Yun Pratiwi. Armed with newfound knowledge and a strengthened network, she is eager to implement innovative strategies and forge meaningful partnerships that will elevate Central Kalimantan as a premier ecotourism destination. Yun’s unwavering commitment to showcasing the unique cultural and natural heritage of her homeland, coupled with her passion for sustainable tourism, promises a bright future for the region and its people.
